International Movers
While you are busy trying to organize all the travel documents for proceeding for an overseas relocation, a constant worry, though small, keeps on nagging you. Will my electronic devices and appliances work there? Will I be able to access my e mail as readily in this country? How long will it take for a new phone connection in my home? Though seemingly small issues, these may cause a lot of inconvenience if you are not prepared with the right action steps. Here are a few suggestions which will make you more aware of issues related to electronics, phones and internet connection when you move abroad and prepare you better with solutions:
Since different countries use different technology use different outlets and have varied requirements, you have to think ahead whether the devices which you currently use can be operated in the new country of destination. You could buy an outlet converter, which will at least help you out with some items of daily use like electric shaver, hair dryer, iron, etc.
Regarding internet connection, check out what Internet Service Provider is used by the majority in the country. Look out for a local ISP and see if they can provide immediate service as soon as you arrive.
Check whether your current phone jack can be used in the new city of relocation. If you are using the services of a realtor to find you a new home, he could throw some light on the subject. Your office, if they are sending you abroad, could also brief you on such issues.
You have to think about your mobile phone also. You might have to configure the phone so that it is usable when you arrive at your destination. Perhaps a new connection would be necessary.
The electrical voltage used and the plug configurations in the new country of destination must be checked out too. While the European standard is 220 volts, North America uses 120 volts. Similarly other countries could have different voltages. In case you own ‘multi system’ electronic system in your home, then this should not be a problem.
In case you decide to use voltage adapters to take care of the voltage problem, make sure that your computer has one installed.
These are only a few issues which an average person who is relocating abroad would face. You could have your own personal issues related to use of electronics, phones and the internet. The best option is to ask your friends who have relocated or go to manufacturers’ websites to check what kind of arrangements there are in the destination country so that you could take some preparatory steps in advance. The real estate agent who is looking for your accommodation is also a good local source who will be able to provide you with many answers which only a local can know.
