Moving Truck

Of the many concern areas which truck rentals involve, loading, mileage and fuel costs are probably the most important. Let us face it, we are not experienced in loading trucks and quite a few us probably would be doing this exercise for the first time in our lives. We can take a lot of lessons from the websites of many reputed moving companies who give adequate information on the art of packing your goods like a pro. Followed properly, these instructions have proved to be highly beneficial even for a novice. But regarding loading, unless you know how to do this job intelligently, you could land with a sprained back or some other injury to your knees, shoulder or wrist. So to do a smooth job of loading your ‘well-packed’ goods, on to the rented truck, ask for dollies and pads from the truck rental agency that will gladly help you with such aides as they are also given on rent. You could rent 6 pads for $5 or $10 for 12 pads if you are moving long distance. These pads work very well when you have to slide heavy items on to the truck bed and do not have to exert too much. Of course, pads are great for packaging as they prevent your goods from getting scratch marks, etc. The dollies which are available between $7 and $12 are great help to load trucks in an easy way. Since you might have to walk along the ramp with your dolly, it is advisable not to overload the dolly, as it might topple and hurt you. Load in small amounts and make several trips – this is safer.

Regarding mileage cost, most truck rental agencies build in this cost along with the rental. But you must be doubly sure regarding this aspect, since additional mileage seems very minimal (approximately $.40 per mile) when every thing adds up in the final bill, the amount does not look very small.

With regard to fuel cost, remember the thumb rule is that when you pick up your rented truck, the gas tank must be full. It is also worthwhile to remember that the gas tank needs to be filled up again when you return the vehicle back to the agency. In case you fail to do this, the company will charge you extra per liter for filling up the tank. You also need to ask the rental agency regarding the fuel consumption pattern of the truck you are hiring. For example a fully loaded 26 feet truck would offer 10 miles per gallon. With this base figure you could calculate how much your fuel consumption is likely to be for relocation to a new city. In case you are towing another vehicle, ask the rental agency how much the fuel cost is likely to be. Remember the weight of the truck ultimately plays a big role in fuel consumption.

If you know the route well and are used to highway driving renting a truck for your relocation can be both fun and exciting. But remember these large vehicles have limited maneuverability and are not allowed on many city roads which have narrow roads or low clearance bridges. So check out all these parameters before you decide to opt for truck rental during relocation
